I don't think that religion is the proper argument against scientific impossibilities.

Very funny comic. Ray Comfort (real name?) appears to be a douche with a flimsy grasp of basic logic.
Now learn to fucking draw, damn you!

I'm working on the drawing bit I promise!

Worst. Comic. Ever. In more lighthearted news, zealots still don't get it. It isn't that nothing made everything, it is just that we do not yet understand how everything came to be with certainty. But to say "god diddit" is just plain stupid. The only reason science cannot disprove higher beings is because of the way the religious nuts have defined their god. He's scientifically untouchable.

Ah man, Ever? There has to be at least one BC comic that's worse than mine…

No. Terrible. :D First timer. I'll leave you some slack. (not that I can draw any better, but I digress).

I just read some posts on that guys blog. What a moron. His planet analogy with Kathryn was piss poor. If you haven't read it, you should. I commented on it, but basically, it's illogical. We can prove their is light on the other side of the planet, and that sunlight exists. Kathryn would be have to accept this as fact, or look like a fool. I suspect in the face of science, she would change her views (to sunlightism).

But no, R.C.'s convoluted logic trumps again.

very nice! i couldnt have drawn it any better! I agree with you completely that the R.C. guy is a bit illogical. I am no atheist but i do accept other peoples beliefs with respect. I say not knowing but trying to find the answer is a great way to go about things, if i didnt believe in god i would do the exact same! pity for me…

Peace. enjoyed the read.

I find it ironic that, when looking at the ocean floor for the mythical Atlantis, scientists found striation in the surface of the earth near the suspected sight and said that these could not have been cause by nature, but will readily accept that everything else in the world was caused by nature.
Formations on the ocean floor in patterns, no, man and everything else, yes. Talk about illogical.

What?! A scientist might say, 'I have no idea what made these marks,' or, 'there is no known explanatory mechanism for this,' but to rule out natural phenomena entirely? That speaks of intellectual sloth, to me. Would this 'scientist' also happen to be a parapsychologist, or not have a hard science degree?

I happen to believe in a god. But that belief in no way prevents cognitive function….. Unfortunately, some people CHOOSE to suspend thought and engage in a kind of "Jahweh or the highway" mindset.

I can never make up my mind about people like Comfort. Is he that ignorant or is he merely playing for an audience that is that ignorant.

Nearly everyone who commented seems to think that they are more intelligent than the non-athiest community.
And yet they are still idiot enough to show incredible prejudice everyone who has different beliefs than themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I have many athiest friends. But none of them are such stuck up, self serving, predjudiced faggots.

"prejudiced faggots"

Pot, kettle… bigot.

Mojo June 25, 2009 at 10:00 pm

Lord knows why you people feel like you have to use "faggot" to demonize the concept of homosexuality passively. Do you call black people or other minorities "nigger"? It's the same thing, idiot. Using language like that is a sin in the eyes of your nonexistent God.

Anyway, I don't view Christianity with hostility, I view closedminded bigots like yourself with hostility. If you were all Mother Theresa's and virtuous as my mother and father, then I think you'd have a lot more Christians in the world, as well as a lot less enemies.

Ha. Very Christian of you.

"But none of them are such stuck up, self serving, predjudiced faggots. "

With such well-reasoned and open-minded statements like that, it's hard to imagine why people aren't flocking to your side of the discussion. Though I do question the statement about friends, atheist or otherwise…

Does such a thing as an absolute belief system exist? Absolute in a sense of being completely correct.

The comic was great! :D
I maintain my position that Ray Comfort is just a troll. I’ve never seen him get an atheist standpoint correct. It’s not hard to say someone is wrong, when you’re arguing about something they don’t even believe.
“Christians: they believe God made Himself! Impossible!”

wait are you confusing agnosticism with atheism?

I'll know how to respond by how you respond to this question: Do you believe in Zeus? Or, are you a Zeus-agnostic?

FUCK I’M SICK OF THAT ARGUMENT… FUUUUCCCKKK!!

I apologize for that outburst, but it was a long time coming and this just happened to be the unfortunate site that I was on while I snapped. The straw-man that broke the camels back (get it? haha).
Seriously, what’s so wrong about admitting you don’t know? I don’t believe everything came from nothing (which is not the big bang theory anyway). I have a better understanding of the big bang than most but I’m still willing to admit that I really don’t know when it comes to origins.

Christians: People who believe NOTHING made GOD. A scientific impossibility!

Reply

David April 14, 2011 at 10:54 am

lol – True, but coming from a christian let me say that our belief is simply that God made everything and He's always existed (we believe someone outside of time and space had to make time and space). I know that I can't prove to you that Christianity is right, but I think you can't prove it's wrong. I mean, it is just plain possible that God created everything.

The universe coming into being violates the 2nd law of thermodynamics, that’s why the billboard was created. There is no way we can, at some future time, figure out how the universe came into being unaided. The problem is not that it is to complex for us to understand at this time. The problem is that it’s scientifically impossible.

Dale April 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm

The second law of thermodynamics simply say that a closed system with different amounts of energy will eventually equally distribute the energy throughout the system. For example, heat will always flow from a relatively hot object(high internal kinetic energy) to a cold object(low internal kinetic energy). Energy cannot flow in the opposite direction. The universe is not a closed system. The flawed 2nd law argument that is so embraced by unscientific theists could also be used to say that it is impossible for hurricanes to form. Due to the fact that an orderly weather pattern is created out of apparent disorder, but we all know that hurricanes do in fact form. The argument is really only useful to convince people ignorant of science , because it makes the argument against big bang or evolution sound like it is based on the scientific method. Instead, this tactic is only exploiting the ignorance of someone who doesn't know about science. I should know, because I used to be a believer.

The Wind God still makes wind, albeit through natural processes. Your science can't tell us why the wind blows at any particular moment.

Reply

Konraden January 17, 2011 at 4:28 pm

The complex variables of weather patterns are not an argument for God.

Science was originally used to explain the ways in which God works. Science can't really be used to prove or disprove God, it merely finds patterns in nature. Using science can't explain away God because it's only one small part of creation. It can't answer the biggest questions of all – why are we here? Or – where did everything come from? I can say this with certainty, you will never answer the question 'where did everything come from' because you're way of thinking is flawed therefore you can't answer it. I'm not trying to be critical – but there's no easier way to say it. If you had a way of thinking that was logical, you would answer the simple, important questions. If my way of thinking was: God proclaimed on the 20th day that nothing can fall, only float… Then someone says, "What about gravity." I wouldn't say, "Okay, well I haven't answered that question yet. But, me and my community are working on it. However in the meantime, why do you see birds flying around the sky? And why do clouds float?" I would instead say, okay there is no way around that question, so I will change my viewpoint to fit that gap in my logic. Well here is the logical gap for athiests, we have matter and space – that had to come from somewhere. That is a logical problem. The beginning of the universe is often relegated to two atoms colliding. Scientists did a very good job at narrowing down the beginning to two atoms colliding, but that is still nowhere near the beginning. Even if you can logically get this universe down to two atoms, I will ask you, "Where did those atoms come from!?" How can there be nothing, and then two atoms exist in the next instant. Tell me that there was another process that made two atoms and I will ask what started that process? Where did the energy come from to begin that process – there was no energy to begin with? 1st law of thermodynamics, energy can't be created only transferred. Fundamental law of physics, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Reverse it, for every reaction there was an action or a cause that started it. The reason most people don't believe in God, is because they don't like Him. They see wars, they see problems in their life, and think, "Any perfect God would have made a different world." But, don't worry about whether or not you approve of the job He did. If He exists, He exists, and you should learn to love Him, because you may meet Him face to face one day. The point of your comic was, ever since the beginnings of meteorology we know there's not a wind god. So, your analogy is, ever since we've figured out how things work because of science etc, we know there's not a God. That argument doesn't work in the least – figuring out how things work doesn't have anything to do with figuring out if God exists or not. They're two different subjects. We can know how things work, and there can be a God. If you ask, how do you know there is a God, we simply just don't know. My way of thinking can support any question – where did matter come from? God made it. Where did space and time come from? God made it. You may think that's dense, but compare it to your responses: Where did matter come from? How on earth am I gonna figure that out? Where did space and time come from? Scientists will tell me some day when they figure that out. There is no middle ground between you and I. Some people believe in God, some people don't. And if you don't believe in God, you will never ever be able to answer the most basic questions in life. The Bible mentions this, we all know there is a God because of creation. Elegant way of saying my overly wordy explanation. There is stuff, so someone made stuff. The universe is the effect, so what was the cause? The argument you could make is, well you can't explain where God came from either, so you're in the same boat really. But, I say, it took someone outside of time and space to create time and space. He's not on the 'timeline'. Our minds are very weak in that we can't even imagine a 'place' without time. It's very easy – you see majestic wonders all around you every second, somebody made that.
